Sarapiquí River White Water Rafting – Class IV (Extreme)

The Río Sarapiquí is Costa Rica's premier extreme rafting destination and one of the most challenging Class III+ / IV commercial runs in Central America. Departing from La Fortuna with roughly 1h 45 of transfer, the tour drops you into a steep-gradient jungle canyon in the northern Caribbean slope where continuous technical rapids follow each other with almost no rest between drops — real whitewater, not a family scenic float. You spend about 2 hours on the river covering a section defined by tight boulder gardens, holes and standing waves that demand proper paddle commands, good aggressive posture and physical conditioning. Certified bilingual guides run through an extended safety briefing, high-side technique and swim protocols before launch; a safety kayaker shadows the group at all times. The scenery is genuinely wild — primary Caribbean rainforest, hanging vines, waterfalls into the river, and a chance of toucans, sunbittern and Amazon kingfishers between rapids. Minimum age 14, no seniors, no reduced mobility, no non-swimmers; solid physical condition and a real appetite for adventure are non-negotiable. Includes all equipment (helmet, PFD, paddle) and lunch at our private riverside restaurant. Transport is not included — we quote it separately by hotel and zone. Available as shared or fully private.
