    The experience

Combo: Canyoning + White Water Rafting

The Maquique Canyoning & Rafting Combo packs two of Costa Rica's most iconic adventure activities into a single full-day expedition — approximately 8 hours from 7:00 AM pickup to 3:00 PM return. You start with the canyoning block in the morning, when the light is best and the canyon is quietest: five rappels from 20 to 60 meters (three directly through waterfalls), two ziplines of 150 and 400 meters, and short interpretive hikes between drops through a private canyon that only Maquique operates. After a hearty traditional Costa Rican lunch (casado) at the Maquique restaurant to recharge, you head to the Río Balsa for the rafting block: 9 km of Class II and III whitewater with punchier rapids up top and calmer scenic water below, a mid-river swim break with fresh tropical fruit, and realistic chances of iguanas, kingfishers and howler monkeys on the banks. Certified bilingual guides run both blocks, and equipment is inspected between activities. Included: We are official providers of Maquique Adventure — all technical equipment (harnesses, helmets, PFDs, paddles), certified bilingual guides and meals. Transport is not included — we quote it separately by hotel and zone. Ages 12+ recommended; requires good general fitness and a real appetite for a long, active day. The single best adventure day if you have only one to spend in Arenal.

Amazing experience from beginning to end. I contacted Elias before our first trip to Costa Rica to book nature tours for La Fortuna. He took our whole wish list — 2 night walks (Ecocentro Danaus and Papa's Place), canyoning, white water rafting with Arenal Rafting, sloth walk at Bogarin, chocolate and coffee tour at North Fields, zip lining at Sky Adventures and the 1968 trail to Arenal volcano. Luis was our nature guide (Gabriel for the sloth walk), both brilliant. Elias went over and above by messaging us each night with reminders and asking how our day had been. Would recommend wholeheartedly.

We had such an amazing experience with Elias Nature Tours from beginning to end. Elias took our whole wish list and booked everything: 2 night walks (Ecocentro Danaus and Papa's place), canyoning, white water rafting with Arenal Rafting, a sloth walk at Bogarin, chocolate and coffee tour at North Fields, zip lining at Sky Adventures and the 1968 trail to Arenal Volcano. He sent a full itinerary with codes and details. We saw a sloth mum and baby come down to ground at Bogarin — awesome! Luis was our guide for all nature tours and Gabriel for the sloth walk. Both were brilliant and so knowledgeable. Elias went over and above, messaging each night with reminders. Would recommend wholeheartedly.
